Despite Chris Jericho’s stipulation that promises Hiroshi Tanahashi a title shot for the AEW World Heavyweight championship if he wins, there are no plans for this match to take place. The idea was proposed by Tanahashi and then Jericho jumped on it as a way to build intrigue up for their match. The two companies haven’t worked out any kind of deal that guarantees a match like that would ever take place. It does appear that NJPW is willing to work out some kind of a deal since they’ve already promoted the stipulation as official:
In a message released by Chris Jericho, The Painmaker has stated that if Hiroshi Tanahashi can beat him at Wrestle Kingdom January 5, he will be granted an opportunity at the AEW Championship.

Jericho’s current deal with NJPW is that he only participates in the bigger events and relies on how well he can move tickets. This gimmick is a way to promote the match out of the ring.
Chris Jericho vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi takes place at WrestleKingdom 14 in the Tokyo Dome on January 5th, 2020.
