Wales prop Tomas Francis has been ruled out for up to four months due to the injury he sustained after a collision with Duane Vermeulen at World Cup.

Francis sustained a serious shoulder injury when he was shoved backwards in an attempted tackle on Vermeulen during the World Cup semi-final between Wales and South Africa.

He was forced to undergo surgery and it has since been confirmed Francis will be sidelined for four months and will subsequently miss large parts of the Exeter Chiefs’ season and Wales’ Six Nations campaign.

‘After two or three scans it became clear that Tom needed an operation to repair the shoulder injury he picked up with Wales at the World Cup. It’s not great news for us, but at least we know where we stand now,’ Chiefs director of rugby Rob Baxter said.

Wales have already been dealt a massive blow with news that both Rhys Patchell (flyhalf) and Jonathan Davies (centre) have been ruled out of the upcoming Six Nations.
